Description:
(Trigger Warning: sexual assault) This painting summons an iconic piece by Italian Baroque artist Artemisia Gentileschi entitled Judith Slaying Holofernes. Gentileschi completed the painting in 1610 when she was 17 years old. Around the same time, Artemisia’s art mentor was tried for and convicted of her rape. Judith Slaying Holofernes 400 Years Later was produced in 2018, during a broader development of the #MeToo movement.

This painting was exhibited in the Rocky Mountain Biennial at the Fort Collins Museum of Art in 2020.
