Description:
The title criticizes how many of the well-known, or largely documented in art history, artists of the Abstract Expressionist movement in the US were men who were married to the well-known during the movement, but lesser-documented women creating abstract expressionist work. Many of these women were used as stepping stones for their husbands’ careers, some even had work destroyed by their husbands(Elaine de Kooning). As a result, their husbands’ names have become more of a household name - Willem de Kooning & Elaine de Kooning, Jackson Pollock & Lee Krasner, Robert Motherwell & Helen Frankenthaler, etc.
